Web Server Security Change Disrupts Updates & License Validation

Jun. 13, 2014

Update: Solution now available!

Dear SERVOsoft Users,

A number of our users have been negatively affected by a security configuration change which was implemented by our web hosting service. This started on June 11, and we isolated the cause of the problem earlier today.

You will appreciate that in these times, Internet security is an issue of paramount importance. The web server security change was implemented by our web hosting service without notice to us and unfortunately has created access issues for some of our SERVOsoft users. We are currently working with our web hosting service to rectify the problem and hope to have a solution shortly. In the meantime we would ask for your patience and understanding.

What does the problem look like?

Depending on your program version, when making a program or database update, you will see "Able to connect, but not able to download (Error: 10013 Access denied)", or some variation thereof.

How does this affect you?

  • Program and Database Updates have been disrupted
    • This is a relatively minor inconvenience as a web browser download from our Downloads page is an easy workaround to get the latest program and/or database update.

  • License Validation has been disrupted
    • License Validation is where SERVOsoft ACT connects to the ControlEng server to validate the user's license.
    • License validation occurs on first run after an install, and every 40-60 days or so thereafter.
    • License validation only applies to some ACT licenses.
    • DGL users are not affected.
    • Currently there is no workaround for this problem other than a program update when one is available. This is what we are working on now, and expect to have an update over the weekend.

We will be in touch shortly with a solution to the current problem. Again we thank you for your patience and understanding and apologize for any inconvenience which may resulted to you.

Yours truly,

Christian Vardin, P.Eng
