Rated Values, Limits, Utilization, Margins

It is very important to understand these key terms - Rated Values, Limits, Utilization, Margins - as they are used throughout the program.

 

Rated Values

  • E.g. Motor Rated Max Torque, Tmax [Nm]

 

Limits

  • Rated value less margin
  • User defined values in Mechanisms

 

Utilization [%]

  • Amount used based on rated value
  • E.g. Treq = 90 Nm and Tmax = 100 Nm
    then U[%] = 90/100 x 100% = 90%

 

Margins / Reserve [%]

  • How much “room” I want to reserve
  • The inverse of Utilization
    ie. 10% Margin is 90% Utilization
